The Open Championship (The Open) rotates among 10 British and Irish links courses. Playing the full Open
rota — or even half of it — is a top-of-the-bucket-list pilgrimage for links-loving golfers. Most are
playable by visitors with advance booking; the old course at St Andrews has a daily ballot and
long-advance reservation system.
Trip Tips
- •April–June and September–October are the most reliable weather windows; July–August is peak season.
- •Mix Scottish and Irish links on a 10–14 day trip for maximum variety.
- •Join the St Andrews ballot 24 hours ahead, or book a reservation 18 months out.
