Up and Down Statistics Questions
What's a good up and down percentage?
Average amateurs: 20-30%. Good players (5-10 hdcp): 35-45%. Scratch golfers: 45-55%. Tour players: 55-65%. Set realistic goals based on your level.
What counts as an up and down?
You must miss the green in regulation, then chip/pitch/bunker shot and 1-putt for par or better. If you 2-putt for par, it's still an up and down.
Should I track scrambling separately from up and down?
They're the same thing! Scrambling and up-and-down both mean saving par or better after missing the green.
How many up and down opportunities per round?
If you hit 6 GIR, you have 12 scramble opportunities. If you hit 9 GIR, you have 9 opportunities. Track them all for accurate stats.
Which lies should I practice most?
Track your data first! You'll discover which lies cost you the most. Most amateurs struggle from sand and deep rough.
Does up and down % really affect my score that much?
Yes! Each 10% improvement in up-and-down saves about 1 stroke per round. Go from 20% to 40%? That's 2 strokes saved.
